Independence Day weekend delivered fireworks on the track, and nobody lit up the scoreboard quite like Jett Nunley. The Marlow, Oklahoma driver put together a Saturday sweep at Dodge City Raceway Park, capping off the Factory Fourteen NOW600 National Series doubleheader in Kansas with wins in both Non-Wing and A-Class competition.
Nunley made the Non-Wing feature look easy, starting from the pole and having the lead after 25 laps. Quinn Thurein kept the pressure on the whole way but had to settle for second, with Zayden Vasquez rounding out the podium. The hard charger award belonged to Preston Norbury, who sliced his way from 14th to fifth. For Nunley, it was his second National Series A-class win of the weekend after topping Friday night’s opener as well.
He was not done. Nunley came right back in the A-Class feature and did it again, grabbing the lead early and controlling the rest of the 25-lapper for his second A-Main win of the night. Vasquez matched his Non-Wing result with another runner-up finish, Jude Allgayer took third, and pole sitter Harley Hollan faded to fourth with Jace Thurein completing the top five.
The Restricted division belonged to Levi Ballard. The Grimes, Iowa driver set quick time earlier in the night, then turned the pole into a commanding 20-lap win. Mason Corbin threw everything he had at Ballard and came up short in second, with Lucas Corbin making it a family podium in third.
Wesson Whitaker closed out the Dodge City weekend in the Junior Sprints with his second straight win at the track. The Montgomery, Texas driver worked from the outside of the front row and held off Axten Larsen late for the victory, with Lane Wanger taking third after winning his heat and pacing qualifying.
Down in Texas, Gulf Coast Speedway in Alvin hosted a loaded Fourth of July program of its own with 63 entries across four divisions.
Anthony Reaves stole the show in the Non-Wing feature, driving from fifth to the front and holding off Anthony Rea in a hard-fought 25-lap main. Aaron Barmore came home third.
Audrie Slough was untouchable in the Restricted class. She led every lap from the pole to complete the night, beating Spencer Gatlin and Corbin Weekly to the checkered flag.
Jett Swindoll turned in the drive of the night in the Junior Sprints, charging from seventh to win the 15-lap feature over Ayden Alvarez and Levi Enfinger. Swindoll swept the weekend at Gulf Coast after also winning Friday night’s Junior Sprint feature.
The Turf Tire Micros brought the biggest field of the night with 23 cars, and Jacob Lucas handled all of them. Lucas started second and drove to the win over Chris Russell and Deuce Chamberlain, adding a feature victory to his heat race win earlier in the evening.
Add it all up and Saturday belonged to the sweepers. Nunley doubled at Dodge City, Swindoll doubled up his weekend at Gulf Coast, and Ballard, Whitaker, Slough, Reaves, and Lucas all left with hardware. The Factory Fourteen NOW600 National Series now points toward a busy July stretch, with Mitchell County Fairgrounds in Beloit, Kansas up next on July 8 before three straight Non-Wing nights at Jefferson County Speedway.
