ALVIN, Texas — Chelby Hinton completed a commanding two-night run at Gulf Coast Speedway on Saturday, August 15, sweeping the Hyper Racing Micro features during the American Communications Construction Micro Classic and collecting the event’s big to-win finale.

Hinton, of Dubberly, Louisiana, started fourth in Saturday’s 30-lap Hyper Racing Micro A-Feature and drove the No. 28 to the victory over Cash Lacombe and Maverick Elkins. The win followed Hinton’s opening-night triumph on Friday, when he topped the Hyper Racing Micro feature to launch the two-day event.

The sweep put Hinton at the center of one of the weekend’s largest Micro Sprint programs. Friday’s opener drew 84 entries across four divisions, including 34 Hyper Racing Micros. Five heat races and two B-Features were required to set the 24-car feature field, and Hinton converted a heat-race victory into the opening-night score.

Saturday’s stakes rose considerably for the Micro Classic finale, with the Hyper Racing Micro feature paying $5,000 to win. The official event listing showed 32 entries in the division, and Hinton emerged from the fourth starting spot to earn the weekend’s biggest check.

Lacombe delivered a strong runner-up performance in the Saturday main, advancing from seventh to second. Local driver Elkins started on the outside of the front row and finished third. Isaiah Garcia moved forward from ninth to finish fourth, while Weldon Buford completed the top five after starting sixth.

Hinton’s climb to the victory lane came against a field that required four heat races, two B-Features and a dash before the 30-lap feature. Jacob Lucas won the dash, while Hinton claimed the opening heat. Karter Battarbee, Lacombe and Lucas won the remaining preliminary races.

The Saturday feature also produced several notable charges through the 24-car field. Anthony Rea raced from 14th to seventh, Karson Battarbee surged from 22nd to ninth, and Oscar Aguilera advanced from 20th to 13th. Hinton, however, was the driver who made the decisive move, improving three positions from his fourth-place starting spot to complete the two-night sweep.

The Hyper Racing Micro division was only part of a busy Saturday card at Gulf Coast Speedway. Oran Whatley won the 25-lap Finish Line Marine Restricted Micro feature from the pole, while Audrie Slough charged from 12th to second and Spencer Gatlin advanced from sixth to third. Jacob Lucas captured the Pipeline MD Turf Tire Micro feature, and the event also included a Junior Sprint program.

Friday’s opening-night program produced additional winners in those supporting divisions. Whatley took the Restricted Micro feature, Lawrence Mann won the Turf Tire Micro main, and Kase Martin claimed the Junior Sprint feature. Hinton and Whatley each completed a two-night sweep in their respective Micro divisions.

For Hinton, the weekend will be remembered for converting a strong Friday start into a defining Saturday finish. The No. 28 was at the front when the opening-night feature mattered, then worked forward from the second row in the high-dollar finale to leave Gulf Coast Speedway with a sweep of the Hyper Racing Micro division.
